New in the Artist Studio - An Imperfect Compass, vol. 1.
As summer rolled into the studio with 100+ degree weather and bone dry days, Nelson found himself dreaming of cool breezes in a tropical paradise. An Imperfect Compass isn't a portrait of a specific locale. It takes inspiration from the majesty and architecture of Hawai'i and the cool blue-green channels between island chains in the Caribbean to create a lush garden paradise by the sea.

A 16x20" canvas, painted in oils, the whole piece was done using various palette knives, rather than brushes.
It started with a color layout of only the sky, sea, beach and grass.
Over this rich color base, geological features, foliage and clouds were added.
Then came the tiki bar, palms, flowers and waves.
Now complete, both the original oil painting as well as art canvas prints are available. We've also added this painting to the line of products available in Nelson's Fine Art America Store.
